Proof we need to start going to church

Last night, while putting Marissa to bed:

Marissa: Mommy, who is God?

Me: Uh...well, God is the Being who created the whole world.

Marissa: Then who is the Cat in the Hat?

[Offstage right: raucous laughter from Daddy]

  1. When you and Kris were little your mother and I set aside money so we could go out to eat at a restaurant every two weeks. We did that because we enjoyed being with our children, but also to help you become comfortable in the surroundings and atmosphere.

In 1972 your mother and I went back to church, because I had a personal need, but we also went because we wanted you and Kris to be comfortable in the environment. I believe we all had a great time.

I think both have paid off. I am sure you both recall the leadership roles you played in high school when you and your friends went out on prom night and you kids knew the ropes and others were uncomfortable at a restaurant.

I recall when Kris came to visit you and I was in Minneapolis on a training event and stayed the weekend. The three of us went to a Lutheran Church in Burnside and none of us were uncomfortable walking into the surroundings and we rather enjoyed the experience.

These are two areas of our society that if children are uncomfortable in the environment or atmosphere they me never get to experience the fellowship with others that can be so rewarding.
